The Victoria & Albert Museum’s annual Upstart Creative Careers Festival has once again proven to be an invaluable event for young people eager to explore careers in fashion. This year, the festival was a resounding success, with Fashion Minority Alliance honoured to collaborate through both booking all ten schools that attended the opening day, Schools Day, and facilitating a series of impactful workshops.
As the Lead Facilitator for the careers workshops at the Upstart Creative Careers Festival, Fashion Minority Alliance played a pivotal role in guiding young minds towards a future-thinking career in fashion. Our workshops provided students with the opportunity to meet and learn from FMA staff as well as industry professionals from our network. These experts shared their practices, ideas, processes and career journeys, emphasising how they ‘future-proof’ their careers in the dynamic world of fashion.
Throughout our workshops, the aspiring creatives learned new and innovative skills, practices and processes to enhance their own learning and practice. They were introduced to ideas for working in sustainable and future-thinking ways, which are essential for the evolving fashion industry, alongside being given valuable insights into the interview process, the importance of developing soft skills and CV tips.
We are dedicated to supporting young people from diverse backgrounds who are interested in pursuing careers in fashion. Events like the Upstart Festival are essential in making the fashion industry more inclusive and equitable by providing a platform for young talents to shine and connect with industry leaders. The success of our workshops would not have been possible without the experienced industry professionals, Jeanette, Nafisa, Justine and Mahan who brought their expertise and passion to each sessions and greatly enhanced the experience for aspiring talents.
